Photos to include

Show the area from context to detail.

Good photos make an initial phone or email conversation more specific. They do not replace looking at the property, but they help explain the project without relying on construction terminology.

01

A wide room or exterior view

Stand back far enough to show the full wall, room, elevation, roofline, deck area, fence line, or part of the yard involved.

02

The main concern

Take closer photos of damage, worn surfaces, openings, transitions, uneven areas, or features you specifically want to change.

03

Connected edges

Include thresholds, base trim, door and window casing, roof edges, fascia, soffit, gutters, siding corners, railings, gates, or steps near the work.

04

What should remain

Photograph existing materials or features you want to keep so the new work can be discussed in relation to them.

A better first message

Focus on needs before products.

“The back steps are difficult to use and we want a deck where four people can sit” gives the project a clear purpose. So does “the flooring is worn, the trim is staying, and we want the room to be easier to clean.” These descriptions help define function, boundaries, and connections.

You can still share product ideas, colors, or inspiration. Just pair them with the problem you want to solve and the parts of the existing home that matter to the result.
